アメリカの作曲家フォスターによるカントリーソングです。
アメリカの西部開拓時代、ゴールドラッシュ時代に作られた歌で、
本当は南部訛の歌詞になっています。
また、黒人差別が入った部分があったのですが、現在はそれは
外して歌われているようです。
よく歌詞を見てみると、雨が降っていたのに乾燥していたとか、
太陽は暑いのに、凍え死ぬだとか、へんてこな部分もいっぱいで、
コミックソングとして、大流行したようです。
現在の歌われている歌詞はおおよそ以下の通りです。

最初の I've come が I come や I came と歌われているものも
あります。
その他にも、細かいところが違うバージョンもあります。
下には概ね上の歌詞で歌われているものと、カットされた部分も

歌詞をメロディーにのせるのが少し難しい箇所があるかも
しれませんが、英語の音節の強弱やライム（rhyme 韻）を
意識するのにいい歌です。
